7 Easy Bible Journaling Ideas for Beginners

7 Easy Bible Journaling Ideas for Beginners

Bible journaling doesn’t have to be complicated—and you definitely don’t have to be an artist!

Bible journaling is simply a creative way to slow down, spend time in God’s Word, reflect on Scripture, pray, and record what God is speaking to your heart.

If you’re just getting started, here are 7 easy Bible journaling ideas for beginners you can try today.

1. Write One Scripture That Speaks to You

Choose one verse from your Bible reading and write it in your journal. Read it slowly several times and think about the words that stand out to you.

Try asking yourself:

What word or phrase stands out to me?

What is God showing me through this Scripture?

How can I apply this verse to my life today?

You don’t need to fill an entire page. One Scripture and a few thoughts are enough.

2. Turn a Scripture Into a Prayer

One of the easiest ways to Bible journal is to turn the verse you are reading into a personal prayer.

For example, Psalm 56:3 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

Your journal prayer might be:

“Lord, when I feel afraid or worried, help me remember that I can trust You. Thank You for being with me and giving me peace.”

This helps move Scripture from simply something you read to something you can pray and apply to your life.

3. Highlight Words That Stand Out

As you read a Scripture, look for words that catch your attention.

You might highlight words such as:

Faith
Trust
Peace
Hope
Love
Strength
Promise

Then write that word in your journal and ask, “What does this word mean for me today?”

4. Use Stickers and Bible Journaling Printables

Stickers are an easy way to add creativity to your Bible journaling without having to draw.

You can use Scripture stickers, flowers, hearts, crosses, butterflies, Bible tabs, prayer sayings, and other faith-filled designs.

Choose a sticker that connects with the Scripture you are studying and add a short prayer or reflection beside it.

Remember: the goal isn’t perfect artwork. The goal is spending meaningful time with God.

5. Create a “God’s Promises” Page

Dedicate a journal page to promises you find in Scripture.

Each time you discover one, write it on your page.

You might begin with:

God is with me.

God gives me strength.

God hears my prayers.

God gives me peace.

God will guide me.

Over time, you’ll create a beautiful collection of Scriptures you can return to whenever you need encouragement.

6. Keep a Prayer and Answered-Prayer Page

Divide a journal page into two sections:

My Prayers

and

God Answered

Write down the things you are praying about. When you recognize an answer to prayer, return to the page and record what happened.

This can become a wonderful reminder of God’s faithfulness.

7. Try the P.R.A.Y. Bible Journaling Method

When you’re not sure what to write, use this simple method:

P — Pause and Pray
Ask God to help you understand His Word.

R — Read the Scripture
Read the passage slowly, perhaps more than once.

A — Apply It
Ask yourself what the Scripture means for your life today.

Y — Yield to God
Finish by praying and asking God to help you live out what you learned.

Remember: You Don’t Have to Be an Artist

Your Bible journal doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

Some days you may use stickers, colorful pens, traceables, or beautiful printables. Other days you may simply write a Scripture and a prayer.

Both are Bible journaling.

Your time with God matters more than how your page looks.

Start simple. Choose one Scripture. Say a prayer. Write what is on your heart—and enjoy spending time in God’s Word. 💜
